A mullite-siliceous outgrowth producing excellent thermal-shock resistant properties in the material forms during service in concretes based on quartzite and corundum. Such concretes show no shrinkage during firing and can be recommended for use in the form of unfired articles prepared using a pressing method, and also in the form of blocks obtained by tamping from semidry masses.
