Im Absorptionsspektrum des Sm (C2H5SO4)3 · 9 H2O wird die Liniengruppe bei\(\tilde v\)=10 528,9 cm−1 bei tiefen Temperaturen im achsenparallelen und achsensenkrechten Magnetfeld untersucht. Die Analyse fuhrt auf den oberen Term\({}^6F_{\begin{array}{*{20}c} {11} \\ 2 \\ \end{array} } \) mit g=1,44, d. h. praktisch reiner Russell-Saunders-Kopplung. Die Matrixelemente des elektrischen Kristallfeldes sowie die Kristalleigenzustande werden bestimmt.
