We describe the pattern of cytokinesis inCryptomonas ovata. Cell division begins at the posterior of an enlarged cell and proceeds through the gullet and between four active flagella. This pattern of cytokinesis inCryptomonas ovata differs from that previously described for other cryptomonads and might be of importance in establishing taxonomic affinities for the group.
