Pyruvic acid-phenylhydrazone has been shown, by injection into rats, to increase the blood sugar level. Hyperglycaemia started 30 min and ceased 330 min after the injection. This activity of the compound was counteracted by insulin and by tolbutamide. Adrenalectomized rats failed to show any significant increase in blood sugar after the injection of the compound.
