Buffered glycerol was shown to be an efficient preservation medium for vaccinia virus, but under the described experimental conditions it was not superior to serum, glycerol-serum, glycerol-broth or fortified Earle's saline in respect of preservative qualities, although it was in respect of its defined chemical composition.
