1. Calcium “glycerate” reacts with amorphous silica with formation of dicalcium silicate, readily isolable from the glycerol solution by dilution, when it is obtained in the form of a hydrated silicate of composition 2CaO·SiO2·H2O. 2. The proposed method permits the preparation of dicalcium silicate without the introduction of excess of calcium oxide into the reaction mixture. The reaction between calcium glycerate and silica gives a 100% yield of dicalcium silicate. The hydrated calcium silicate obtained is a crystalline compound.
