Triaminoguanidinium azide (TAZ) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c witha=6.679(2),b=7.722(2),c=13.143(4) A,β=95.44(2)°,Z=4, with one anion/cation pair in the asymmetric unit. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined to a finalR value of 0.037. The non-hydrogen atoms of the triaminoguanidinium cation are planar and the azide anion is linear. This puckered layer structure consists of an infinite three-dimensional network of N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds which link the cations to the anions.
