Receptor activity of the muscles of deglutition was recorded in cats. Discharges of afferent impulses were recorded in the peripheral ends of divided nerves to the geniohyoid, mylohyoid, sternohyoid, thyrohyoid and pharyngeal constrictor muscles. The number of receptors in the muscle (active at rest and during stretching) is small, between 1 and 3; in the sternohyoid muscle it may reach 10. During stretching of the muscles an increase in the discharge frequency of the receptors developed.
