A fairly complete but limited set of gas phase reactions involving nitrogen-bearing molecules is linked to a simple model of grain surface reactions. Calculations are performed attempting to simulate the nitrogen chemistry in interstellar clouds of low and high density. While it appears probable that grain surface reactions contribute to the chemistry in both regimes, conclusive evidence awaits observational and theoretical developments.
