A study is made of the many-soliton component of the solutions of the nonlinear Schroedinger equation that are obtained from the N-soliton (in particular, one-soliton) solutions by restricting the support (with respect to x) of the initial (at t = O) function to an arbitrary finite or semi-infinite interval.
