Abstract

1. A mixture of 1- and 3-bromo-2-alkanones reacts selectively with piperidine in benzene or trimethylamine in aqueous ethanol to form the corresponding 1-piperidino-2-alkanones of (β-oxoalkyl)trimethylammonium bromides. 2. Cyclocondensation of 1-piperidino-2-alkanones and (β-oxoalkyl)trimethylammonium bromides with urea leads to 4(5)-alkyl-2-imidazolinones.
