The hydrothermal scheduling problem is discussed. Optimal load flow solutions are obtained such that both maximum economy and reliability of the system are achieved. The scheduling problem is solved by use of functional analysis, and in this case the minimum norm formulation is employed. It is emphasized that the optimal solution found here is guaranteed to be the unique optimal solution.
