1. The condensation of 1,1,3-trichloro-1-propene with benzene, toluene, 3-phenyl-1,1-dichloro-1-propene, 3-(p-chlorophenyl)-1,1-dichloro-1-propene, naphthalene and 3-phenyl-1,1,1,2-tetrachloropropane was carried out in the presence of aluminum chloride or antimony pentachloride, with the formation of the corresponding mono- and di-alkylated products. 2. α-chloro-p-chlorohydrocinnamic acid was prepared in good yield by the action of chlorine on 3-(p-chlorophenyl)-1, 1-dichloro-1-propene in concentrated sulfuric acid.
