1. Reaction, initiated by t-butyl peroxide, between normal primary alcohols and unsaturated alcohols with the double bond in the allyl position leads to 1,4-alkanediols. 2. At molar proportions of saturated alcohol: allyl alcohol: peroxide of 20:1: 0.2–0.3, a reaction time of six hours, and a temperature of 160–170° the yields of 1∶1 adducts range from 50 to 60%.
