1. As a result of improvements in the conditions in mass exchange between the liquid and gas phases, the vinylation of triethanolamine can be conducted over a wide range of pressure (from 12 to 2 atm excess pressure) at 180–200° in presence of alkaline catalysts. 2. With lowering of pressure the rate and completeness of vinylation diminish, and to obtain high yields of the vinyl ethers of triethanolamine it is necessary to raise the temperature. 3. Removal of moisture from the reaction mixture promotes increase in the yield of vinyl ethers and in the extent of the vinylation. 4. A method was developed for the preparation of the trivinyl ether of triethanolamine at an excess pressure of 12 atm in a semicontinuous apparatus in which the formation of a gas-liquid emulsion is ensured by the very vigorous stirring applied.
