This article briefly summarises various aspects of building a model, before reviewing some models of protein turnover, the metabolism of selected amino acids, and urea synthesis in human subjects. Some software for use in modelling is noted. An Appendix lists terms with descriptions and definitions, which are often employed in modelling.
