1. The exceedingly high cold resistance that is characteristic of alloy G29 of high purity is not observed for the alloy with 29% Mn with a higher concentration of nitrogen and carbon. 2. Because of the austenitizing effect of carbon and nitrogen, the boundary of the phase areas on the Fe-Mn diagram shifts to lower manganese concentrations. The most cold resistant of the Fe-Mn alloys of commercial purity is the alloy with a manganese content somewhat less than 29%. 3. The low ductile-brittle temperature that is characteristic of the high-purity Fe-Mn alloy G29 is observed in the range of manganese concentrations from 26 to 31%.
