It is known that the deoxidation of rail steel in the ladle with complex ferroalloys based on silicon and including calcium, magnesium, titanium, Or zirconium in a certain combination makes it possible to obtain railroad rails of group-I quality characterized by a high degree of reliability and long service life. This is achieved by the elimination of alumina and alumina-silicate stringers in the rails. According to data from the Soviet Ministry of Railroads, such stringers are the main sources of contact-fatigue fractures.
