Abstract

1. An investigation has been carried out of the mutual solubility of dibutyl cresol isomers and of their solubility in monobutyl cresols and benzine. It was shown that the solubility of the individual dibutyl cresols follows the Le Chatelier's equation, so that the cooling temperatures of different feedstocks, required for extracting the maximum amount of ionol, can be calculated. 2. It was found that it is possible to use a two-stage crystallization process to obtain ionol of greater than 98% purity, in a yield close to the calculated value.
