Abstract

A case is described of a 76-year old woman with left-sided herpes oticus, herpes facialis and facial palsy. Post-mortem examination showed herpetic inflammation of the left Gasserian ganglion and geniculate ganglion. This is the first histological evidence of the involvement of the geniculate ganglion in herpes zoster oticus.
