The thermal effects during heating of quenched VT22 alloy were investigated. It was found that the ..cap alpha.. + ..beta.. reversible ..beta.. transformation temperature is 920 to 930/sup 0/C. It appears that the ..beta.. solid solution is heterogeneous in chemical composition and the residues contain only that portion corresponding in electrochemical properties to the conditions of separation. In the quenched condition the ..beta.. matrix of ..cap alpha.. + ..beta.. alloys evidently consists of several ..beta.. solid solutions that differ in composition, stability, and specific mechanism of decomposition. In some sections of the alloys investigated the ..beta.. ..-->.. ..cap alpha..' transformation is quite rapid, with kinetics close to martensitic, while other sections undergo prolonged multistage decomposition.
