Abstract

1. The modifying effect of calcium is due to its deactivating influence on impurity particles that serve as solidification centers for eutectic silicon in unmodified Silumin. 2. Along with its possible influence on deactivation of impurities, the modifying effect of sodium is due to its reduction of the solidification rate of the eutectic.
