It has been shown that the roots ofBryonia alba contain cholest-7-en-3β-ol, 24-methylcholest-7-en-3β-ol, 24-ethylcholest-7-en-3β-ol, 24-methylenecholest-7-en-3β-ol, 24-ethylidenecholest-7-en-3β-ol, 24-ethyl-4-methylcholest-7-en-3β-ol, 24-ethylidene-4-methylcholest-7-en-3β-ol, and also previously undescribed 3-O-β-glucopyranosides of the above-mentioned sterols.
