The use of a very simple but specific staining method for in situ localisation of DNA-aldehyde and DNA-phosphate group with gallamine blue has been suggested in this paper. Evidence is presented to show that with the dye dispersed with concentrated sulphuric acid and the dissolved in distilled water staining occurs with DNA-aldehyde, whereas, staining of DNA-phosphate group is possible when sulphuric acid dispersed dye is dissolved in a solution of one or the other of some transitional metal cations.
