Surface analytical techniques are now used so routinely and frequently in technological problems that technology is itself dictating some of the directions in which the techniques should develop; in particular, the directions of improved spatial resolution, of combining surface analytical with bulk analytical techniques in the same system, and of the analysis of materials, either in difficult physical states or in difficult ambients. This paper describes some of the recent advances in these various directions, with examples given of how they have been applied.
| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 12 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 10% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
