Culture filtrates of Nomuraea rileyi showed comparable proteolytic activity on two substrates: casein and freeze dried cuticle of Heliothis zea larvae. Optimum proteolytic activity occurred on day 4 post inoculation. The enzyme was observed to have a broad pH optimum range from 6–9 with maximum activity occurring at pH 8. At pH 7.6, the enzyme showed a broad thermal stability, with optimum activity occurring between 35 and 50 °C and declining at 60 °C.
