A new yeast species, Candida savonica, isolated from wood in Finland, is described. The culture of a new yeast species was obtained in October 1972 from a woodpile at the road side near Varkaus in the central part of Finland (Savonia borealis). The yeast formed white spots on the cut surface of the birch logs. The description of this species is based on identification methods described by Lodder and Kreger-van Rij (1952) and van Uden and Buckley (1970).
