Four cases of rheumatoid arthritis with osteoarticular lesions in the cervicooccipital region are reported. Changes in the connections of the odontoid process with the base of the skull are the consequence of important articular changes of destructive type involving the occipitocervical and C1–2 interspaces. The authors point out the role of the tomographic examination for demonstrating upward luxation of the axis.
