1. The brain of Gegenophis carnosus Beddome resembles that of Ichthyophis glutinosus in general organisation. In size, shape and structure the hypophysis of Gegenophis differs from that of other groups of Amphibians. The pars nervosa is at the posterior tip of the hypophysis and is connected to the brain by a nervous tract. 2. The preoptic nucleus is situated on either side of the third ventricle. The neurons of this nucleus produce two types of neurosecretory matter. The first type, stainable blue by Gomori's chrome alum-haematoxyline-phloxine get transported through the axons of the neurosecretory cells to the pars nervosa. The second type of larger colloids are extruded into extracellular spaces and are later released into the third ventricle.
