Abstract

A total of 245 consecutive patients who presented with symptoms of prostatism were investigated urodynamically. An increase of bladder outlet resistance was found in 65% of the patients. Detrusor instability was found in 50%. Its occurrence was not related to the degree of obstruction. Detrusor strength did not increase with increasing resistance while detrusor speed was low in a considerable number. In non-obstructed bladders, symptoms were related to detrusor-instability in 50%, a decreased detrusor strength in 30%, and a slowly contracting detrusor in 35%.
