Selected aspects connected with the application of the electrochemical methods in clinical analysis are overviewed. The distinction between the direct and indirect measurement in chemical and in medical sense is made and within this framework the present status of electrochemical assays in clinical analyzers is discussed. The need of thorough recommendations is stressed throughout the text.
