With appropriate instrumentation it is now possible to follow a diagnostic arthroscopy with a definitive surgical procedure. Arthroscopic surgery has become an established technique in many centres of the world and in most instances, is done on an out-patient basis. Partial meniscectomy and other operative procedures involve either two or three portals of entry into the joint, with visual triangulation of instruments to the area of the pathology.
