Abstract

Copolymers of (R)-3-hydroxybutyrate (3HB) and 4-hydroxybutyrate (4HB) were efficiently produced by Alcaligenes latus in the culture solution containing sucrose and γ-butyrolactone. The conversion yield of γ-butyrolactone into 4HB unit of copolymer by A. latus was as high as 60%.
