Since 2012, the effect of balloon pulmonary angioplasty has been reported mainly in Japan, but currently, it is attracting the attention of many pulmonary hypertension specialists worldwide. Since balloon pulmonary angioplasty has not yet been established as an alternative treatment for these patients, we briefly explain its history, indication, fundamental techniques, complications and prevention methods, and treatment effects. Additionally, we address the limitations and future perspective of balloon pulmonary angioplasty in this chapter.
