
In his New Rhetoric, Chasm Perelman introduces a model to describe how arguers try to convince others of the acceptability of their opinions. Like Toulmin, Perelman is of the opinion that the logical criterion of formal validity is not an adequate basis for evaluating arguments in everyday language, and he tries to develop an alternative criterion of validity.
