Disordered function of the Fallopian tubes is epitomized in gynaecological practice by ectopic pregnancies. The fact that this phenomenon is almost entirely limited to the human female1 probably is a reflection of specific pathological conditions, but it may also indicate that the human oviduct differs in certain critical anatomical and physiological respects from those other species. This chapter will summarize current knowledge about the role of PGs in oviductal function with emphasis on information about the human Fallopian tube.
