</script>The ability to assemble a printed circuit board to a consistently high quality is essential to the manufacture of electronic devices. Printed circuit board assembly covers a wide range of different processes which are dependent on the types of component to be assembled, the two major types of components being leaded components and surface mount components. The assembly of leaded components into printed circuit boards has until recently been the main activity associated with the printed circuit board assembly processes. Surface mount component assembly and the assembly of boards containing both leaded and surface mount components are discussed in Chapter 7.
