Abstract

For all types of organism some system of naming and grouping is required, if order is to be created out of chaos. In this respect the viruses which infect the higher plants (Angiospermae) are no exception. In classification schemes, however, if a system is going to stand the test of time, it is essential for individuals to be grouped according to consistent and accurately determined characteristics and relationships.
