The knowledge concerning A. oleae is very limited. In 1900 Nalepa described the new species Eriophyes oleae. It is possible that the Greek research workers Kavadas (1927), Anagnostopoulos (1937), and Pelecassis (1962) referred to the same mite which is found on leaves of olive trees in Greece. In 1959 and 1954 Georghiou reports that this mite is the cause of damage to olive fruits in Cyprus. Recently Hatzinikolis (1969 a, b, c, 1970) gave some information on the pathogenesis and distribution of A. oleae. The investigations reported herein were conducted to increase the limited knowledge of A. oleae which is very important for the olive tree plantations in Greece.
