Abstract

Asthma is variable airflow obstruction. Some authorities insist on 20 per cent variability, while others are content with 10 per cent. Fifteen per cent is a reasonable compromise, but it is best not to be dogmatic as there is considerable overlap in respiratory diseases (see Chapter 2).
