BEFORE proceeding to the results of the experimental work done in sand moving under controlled conditions through a wind tunnel, it may be of interest to describe shortly the final form of the tunnel with which the work was carried out. The design had to fulfil a number of special requirements, and as no previous experimental work on the subject had been published, a satisfactory arrangement was only evolved after several unsuccessful designs had been tried out.
