Abstract

Engineering design was one of the first contenders for the sensible application of automated computer graphics (ACG). However, early work in this area indicated that it was much harder than anticipated to obtain useful results to support or speed the design process. The problem was how to construct a unified data base to hold the details of a complex design such as the fuselage of an aircraft or the hull of a ship.
