The importance of composite compressive strength is fortified by the wealth of published literature pertaining to this subject. A literature search disclosed more than 350 references. Approximately twentyfour references were identified as important developments and span the timeframe since 1981. Older references, although important, are not cited since the significance of the conclusions and validity of approach of the more recent works is given priority.
