Among the total number of human cancers, mahgnant tumors of the kidney account for 2% and are found in 0.3% of the autopsy material (Lucke and Schlumberger, 1957). Approximately 75% of these tumors are mahgnant epithehal growth of the renal parenchyma (Riches et al., 1951). In the Anglo-American hterature it is called renal adenocarcinoma or renal cell carcinoma, whereas in Germany it is better known as hypernephroma. Chnically, these tumors are compiled in one group because diagnosis, therapy, and prognosis are identical. The terms hypernephroma and adenocarcinoma of the kidney are therefore used analogously.
