Nasal Vestibule, Nasal Cavity, and Paranasal Sinuses

Authors: Toby S. Kramer;

Nasal Vestibule, Nasal Cavity, and Paranasal Sinuses

Abstract

Malignant disease of the nose and sinuses accounts for only a small proportion of human cancers. The challenge to the managing physician on the other hand is usually greater than that presented by cancer in many other sites. The advanced stage of disease at presentation and the proximity of critical normal structures mandates a high degree of technical competence in order to produce acceptable results. An interdisciplinary approach is necessary to insure optimal diagnosis, staging, therapy and rehabilitation. The spectrum of malignancies encountered in this region is broad, further confusing the principles of management. In this chapter, major emphasis is placed on the therapy of epithelial neoplasms arising from the mucosal lining of the nasal chambers. Salient features of non-epithelial tumors are mentioned separately where appropriate.
