</script>The ovary is a paired organ, each of which measure about 3 × 2 × 1 cm in women of reproductive age. The average weight of the ovary is 7–14 g. All but the hilus is located within the peritoneal cavity. Each ovary is joined to the uterus by the ovarian ligament and receives its vascular supply through the infundibulopelvic ligament. The ovary is enclosed by the tough tunica albuginea, below which is the actual germinal parenchyma with the follicles. The interior of the ovary consists of a medullary zone containing mainly nerves and blood vessels (Fig. 5).
