Tumours of the Female Genitalia

Abstract

Cancer of the cervix is by far the commonest tumour of Ugandan women. The incidence is high in all parts of Uganda. Patients present late in the course of the disease and therapy is often impossible at this stage. Carcinoma of the corpus uteri is an uncommon tumour and often shows unusual histological patterns. Tumours of the ovary are common but mucinous cystadenomas appear to be relatively infrequent. Tumours of the vulva are unusual and are not often associated with obvious leukoplakia. Those tribes showing a high incidence of penile carcinoma also appear to have a higher incidence of vulval tumours. Choriocarcinoma and hydatidiform mole are probably no more common than in Caucasians. However, fertility statistics are difficult to obtain and incidence figures are therefore only approximate.
