
The use of military vehicle performance simulation methods is playing an increasing role in the design and development of combat and tactical vehicle systems. Analytical and physical simulation tools are being used to reduce the time and high cost associated with conventional prototype-based “build-test-break-fix” military vehicle design and development programs. Their use also ensures, prior to fabricating prototypes, that new system designs meet specified performance levels. The emphasis of this paper is on the application of real-time physical simulation tools to structural integrity investigations in support of reliability forecasting.
