It is apparent on manual examination that nulliparous, uniparous, and multiparous women differ in the size of their uterus and especially in uterine length. The average length of the normal uterus is 85 mm, with a range from 60 to 110 mm (Bernaschek et al. 1981). The average uterine length in nulliparae is only 76 mm, which is significantly lower than the 80.5 mm average length in uniparae. Similarly, the average uterine length in multiparae, at 87 mm, is significantly greater. Sample et al. (1977) found similar values in their investigations. After menopause the uterine length decreases to the range of 35–65 mm, comparable to prepubertal values (Miller et al. 1977).
