
The answer to this question varies from author to author. Hih, in 1971 reported 63 patients with recurrent hiatal hernia managed secondarily by posterior gastropexy; mortality was 3.3% [1]. Elhs and Crozier recently documented a series of 29 patients undergoing reoperation utilizing fundophcation with 75% satisfactory result and no mortality [2]. Polk has utilized jejunal interposition with excellent success and a four per cent mortality [3]; however, other authors have reported up to a 15% mortahty with the same approach [4, 5].
